Fuse board upgrades
Fuse board and consumer unit replacement
If one fault takes out the whole house, or the board still has rewirable fuses, it is doing a job that modern boards do far better.
An older board usually has one RCD covering everything, so a failing freezer in the garage puts the lights out upstairs. A modern board gives every circuit its own RCBO: the faulty circuit drops out and the rest of the house carries on. For anyone working from home or with a freezer full of food, that alone is worth the job.
A replacement is a day's work in most houses. The supply is isolated, every circuit is tested before and after, earthing and bonding are brought up to current standards, and you get an Electrical Installation Certificate with the test results on it. The work is notifiable, so it is registered with the scheme and building control is notified.
Questions
About this work
How long does it take?
A straightforward swap is a single day with the power off for most of it. If the earthing or bonding needs upgrading, or circuits fail testing, it can run longer — that gets discussed before anything is disconnected.
Do I get a certificate?
Yes — an Electrical Installation Certificate with the full test schedule, plus notification to building control through my Part P scheme.

Fault finding & repairs
Most call-outs start here: something has stopped working, or the fuse board keeps throwing the whole house into darkness and nobody knows why.
EICRs & safety checks
An Electrical Installation Condition Report tells you the actual state of the wiring, with anything dangerous coded so you know what must be done and what can wait.
EV charger installation
A home charger is mostly an electrical job rather than a car one: what matters is the supply into the house, the main fuse, and how the cable gets to where you park.
Sockets & lighting
The small jobs that make a house easier to live in, and the ones most people put off for years because of the extension lead that has become furniture.
Rewires
A rewire is the job nobody wants and plenty of older properties round here eventually need — usually the ones still running rubber or fabric-insulated cable.
